Health officials pleased with turnout at vaccination blitz
Health officials say they are pleased with the turnout so far of persons getting their second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine at today's blitz at the National Area in St Andrew.
"I am happy with what has been happening," said Dr Yohance Rodriguez who was covering for the regional technical director for the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA), which encompasses St Catherine, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew.
"Our aim coming into today's second shot blitz was to vaccinate 150 people per hour and from the look of things we have exceeded this number," revealed Rodriguez, who is the Dr Yohance Rodriguez, regional medical epidemiologist at SERHA.
Aiming to vaccine some 700 people, health workers had administered the shot to 301 persons, including 24 first-timers, in the first two hours of the blitz, which is scheduled to run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
According to Rodriguez, lots of persons have expressed interest in getting their second shot of the vaccine, noting that today's exercise is targeting the elderly, high-risk groups, healthcare and tourism workers as well as law enforcement personnel.
He's encouraging Jamaicans to get vaccinated.
