Jamaicans get a taste of Korean culture
The Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Jamaica last week staged its K-Lovers’ Virtual Party Series that featured a video clip competition, virtual quiz competition and a virtual talent competition.
The event was held over two days at the AC Hotel by Marriott, St Andrew.
In keeping with the global trend of going digital to ensure safety first and adjusting to the new normal, the embassy decided to go the virtual route in order to provide an avenue for K-lovers in Jamaica to still share and exchange in the rich culture of Korea from the comfort of home or any place of their convenience. As Charge d’Affairés LIM Baejin says, “these events will foster familiarity and bring us closer together as friends”.
This is the second such virtual staging of the embassy’s annual cultural events. Last year the events were well received by Jamaicans, and this year’s staging is a clear improvement over last year. According to LIM, “One of the key mandates of the embassy is to bring Korea and Jamaica to an unbreakable bond of friendship of mutual appreciation for our cultures and what makes us unique as peoples of our respective countries.”
The annual Korean Speech Contest is another event to look forward to this year. The date will be announced soon. Everyone can look out for the Speech contest on the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Embassy @ jmkoreanembassy and find us on YouTube by searching Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Jamaica.
LIM expressed gratitude to Jamaicans for their continued support and encourages all to join again next year.
