A St Thomas man succumbed to his injuries Wednesday afternoon after being shot by the police during an alleged gun battle in Seaforth.

The deceased has been identified as 25-year-old Dwayne Gordon of Pattoo Gully in the area.

It is reported that a police team was on duty in the area when the cops were met with gunfire from a group of men.

The lawmen reportedly took evasive action and returned fire, hitting one of the men.

Gordon was later found suffering from gunshots wounds to his upper body.

He was rushed to the Princess Margaret Hospital where he died while undergoing surgery.

The police say the Independent Commission of Investigations has been informed of the incident.

In the meantime, the St Thomas police are conducting investigations to locate the other men involved in the shootout.
