A bail application for a 26-year-old St Andrew labourer accused of raping a 12-year-old on four different occasions was today postponed until March 4 in the Supreme Court.

The application was put off after the prosecution asked for a postponement to ascertain whether the defendant is facing another sex charge.

The prosecution was informed by the investigator that the defendant was charged in another parish with carnal abuse.

Attorney-at-law Sayeed Bernard, however, told the court that his client was acquitted in that matter and that he will bring proof on the next court date.

The defendant is accused of sexually assaulting the juvenile on two days in August and two days in December 2021 at a house in his community.

He was arrested on January 25, last year after the complainant informed a relative about the alleged rape and was taken to the police.

The defendant, who is facing four counts of rape, was remanded.
