Fourth Oracabessa lock-up escapee back in custody

A fourth escapee from the Oracabessa Police Lock-Up in St Mary has been recaptured.

Twenty-five-year-old Jahmala Vernon was recaptured on Thursday after he was turned in by a relative.

The construction worker of Boscobel, St Mary, was detained on a charge of robbery.

"The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) hereby applauds the efforts of family members and residents who have assisted in the peaceful recapture of these escapees," a media release from the JCF's Corporate Communications Unit said.

Another escapee, 26-year-old Lashawn Davidson, otherwise called 'Yeng', was recaptured on Tuesday in Lawrence Tavern, St Andrew.

Two others, 22-year-old Linton Bailey and 24-year-old Tray Walker, were recaptured earlier in January.

The men escaped jail on December 21, 2023.

"The JCF continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining escapees and urge anyone with information to come forward,” stated Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Allen, Head of the Area 2 Police Division.

The remaining escapees are:

* Twenty-two-year-old Phillip Williams of Belfield, St Mary, who was charged with shooting with intent.

* Twenty-one-year-old Nolando Akenson of Pimento Walk, St Ann, and Boscobel, St Mary, who was charged with robbery.

* Twenty-eight-year-old Gaveen Hurd of Stony Hill, St Andrew, and Enfield, St Mary, who was charged with murder.

ACP Allen is reminding the public that it is an offence to harbour fugitives and the police will remain relentless in their efforts to apprehend the other prisoners.

He is also seeking to assure the public that all information will be treated confidentially and will be thoroughly investigated to ensure that all escapees are re-captured to maintain public safety.
