Police corporal on murder charge offered bail
A police corporal, implicated in the 2022 murder of a man and the injury of another in St Catherine, was today re-offered bail of $1.5 million in the Gun Court.
Corporal Deon Carr was offered bail by Justice Vinette Graham Allen on charges of murder and shooting with intent on condition that he surrender his travel documents and report to the Spanish Town Police Station.
Carr was initially offered $500,000 bail in the St Catherine Parish Court before the matter was transferred to the high court.
Carr, who is being represented by lawyers John Jacobs, Courtney Rowe and Hugh Wildman, is scheduled to return to court on May 21.
In the meantime, the court was informed that the forensic certificate was outstanding.
The charges stem from the August 19, 2022, fatal shooting of Tajay Smith and the shooting with the intent of another man in Greendale, St Catherine, while the cop was off duty.
Carr was charged following an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
