Ian Myles says future bright following switch to the JLP
Ian Myles, the incumbent deputy mayor of Savanna-la-Mar and candidate for the Little London Division in the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation says his political future is looking bright following his switch to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).
“I am pretty excited, the future looks bright, everyone knows by now why I would have left the PNP. Today, the shared enthusiasm, the passion, the heartrending support that is meted out to us by the Jamaica Labour Party supporters is fantastic,' Myles told The Gleaner.
“I am in awe right now, here I am standing on the lawns of Gordon Hall, where I was just nominated,” he said after collecting his receipt for the $3,000 paid for the nomination fee and a copy of the voters' list from Errol Stewart, the returning officer for the constituency of Western, Westmoreland.
Myles who is a senior educator at the Little London High School won the division on the People's National Party ticket before switching his orange jersey to green in favour of the JLP when he crossed the floor to join that party last September.
Myles says he is hoping to increase his margin of victory in this election and to help his other colleagues to do the same as part of taking control of the Corporation.
In the 2016 local government election, there were 7,287 registered electors on the Little London division voters' list. Myles polled 1,127 votes to the 945 votes polled by Dixeth Palmer of the Jamaica Labour Party.
