Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party Prime Minister Andrew Holness today declared that the JLP will win the Whitehouse Division in Westmoreland.

Speaking with reporters on a campaign tour of key communities ahead of the February 26 local government elections, Holness said the time has come for the JLP to take control of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation.

“If there was ever a time to take that division, [Whitehouse] the time is now,” Holness declared.

He argued that the Opposition People's National Party (PNP) has held leadership control of the Whitehouse Division in Eastern Westmoreland for over 40 years and there is very little, if anything, to show for it.

“It has become almost a tradition for the PNP to vote in that area and one gets a sense of entitlement that they believe that they will also hold that area,” he said.

However, Holness is of the view that, based on his assessment and the work of his administration, the JLP will win the Whitehouse Division.

“I do detect in the residents there, people who I have met, that they have seen the work done by their representative, they have seen the work done by the government, and I think that they are going to vote sensibly in this local government election,” Holness said.

At the close of nomination day yesterday, 14 of the 33 candidates were nominated by electors of the Holness-led JLP.
