A March 18 court date has been set for plea and case management in the matter in which Windalco is accused of causing the 2021 fish kill in the Rio Cobre in St Catherine.

The date was set when the case came up for mention in the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.

Senior Parish Court Judge Yvette Wentworth-Miller expressed concern that there had already been eight mention dates in the matter.

The defence told the court that in January a 21-page document was received from the National Environment and Planning Agency and they needed time for analysis.

However, the judge was adamant the case needed to move forward.

"This is a 2021 matter which needs to be dealt with, so there must be a firm date," Wentworth-Miller said.

The alumina company has been dragged before the court for a July 26, 2021 effluent spill in the Rio Cobre, which caused a pungent odour and resulted in fish being killed.

The managing director of the company is answering to breaches of the Wild Life Protection  Act.
