Portmore man charged for allegedly fraudulently collecting money for overseas work programme
A 64-year-old Portmore resident has been charged with fraudulent conversion and obtaining money by false pretence in relation to an alleged employment scam.
He is Jerome Walters, of Sea Circle, Portmore, St Catherine.
Late last year, a woman reportedly paid Walters $148,000 to register for an overseas work programme.
The Spanish Town police say Walters could not provide a date for the woman to commence work, so a refund was requested.
She subsequently reported the incident to the police when the money was not returned.
Walters was apprehended on Thursday and charged following a question-and-answer session.
He is scheduled to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court on February 23.
