Murder tally surpasses 100 mark

Jamaica has surpassed 100 murders since the start of the year, according to the latest serious crimes updates from the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).

As at February 17, the country's murder tally stood at 122 homicides.

This represents a 25 per cent decline in murders year-on-year.

At that point last year, 163 murders were committed.

For the two-week period of February 3 to February 17, a total of 39 homicides were recorded, according to crime statistics for the period.

St James 20, St Catherine South 13, St Catherine North 9, and St Ann, Clarendon and St Andrew Central with eight murders each are leading the 19 police divisions with homicides.

Shootings are up 18 per cent and injured persons reports have recorded 18 more year-on-year.

Rape, robbery and break-ins have declined.
