McKenzie tells Portland JLP supporters to go out and vote
Local Government Minister, Desmond McKenzie, on Monday night urged Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters in Portland that they should ensure that they go out to vote on February 26.
McKenzie told supporters that it is not enough to attend rallies, but they must also cast their ballots.
“Loving Ann-Marie and Daryl Vaz and loving Andrew Holness cah win election. No amount a green shirt and ringing of bell can win election. What wins a election is a vote,” he told the audience.
He added, “And every man and every woman in this audience tonight, remember, as a party we must never be afraid to talk about the success of the government of Prime Minister Andrew Holness in this country. Dem cah match us when it comes on to performance.”
He argued that the administration has done more for local government than any other government.
“So, for the remainder a di campaign don't believe a word dem tell you dat we don't love local government, a lie dem a tell. Because even di PNP [People's National Party] themselves…. You have two a dem in this parish, who I have respect for, if you ask dem they will tell you that Desmond McKenzie and the labour party a di best thing coulda happen, we better than slice bread since we come in. I challenge dem tonight to tell the country what is it that they can do that we are not doing and what is that they can do better than what we are doing. And you coulda wait till you drop dung dead, all dem a tell you time come.”
The local government minister was on a tour of Portland with Prime Minister Holness on Monday to drum up support for the nine JLP candidates in East and West Portland ahead of the February 26 local government elections.
