#JAVOTES2024 | Majority of polling stations opened on time - ECJ
The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) says all 6,726 polling stations islandwide are now open.
Just over two million electors are eligible to vote at their designated polling stations spread across about 2,700 locations.
Just about two per cent or just over 130 of the total locations missed the 7 a.m. start time and were opened late.
The ECJ says those stations opened between 7:05 and 7:30 a.m.
Meanwhile, the Portmore municipality holds the distinction of having a directly elected mayor.
Just under 107,000 electors are eligible to vote for incumbent mayor Leon Thomas of the People's National Party who is going up against political neophyte, broadcaster Markland Edwards.
The 319 polling stations in Portmore were all declared open on time.
