#JAVOTES2024 | Strong enforcement of voting protocols at August Town polling stations
There is heavy enforcement of security protocols at three of the polling stations in the often volatile August Town where supporters in the St Andrew East constituency have been slowly filing in from morning.
At August Town Primary School, police officers at the gate have been taking great care in informing voters of the protocols: "no party markings, no cell phones, no weapons, no drugs, no lighters, no gun."
Voters stated that they have been there from 4 a.m. and will not leave until long after 6 p.m.
At August Town Primary, there were brisk searches as cops turned away opened alcoholic beverages, and informed some voters to turn their marked shirts inside out before entry.
Both the August Town and Escarpment Road polling stations were calm and orderly though some voters lambasted one officer for enforcing the 100-metre distance protocols from the polling station.
Security protocols deeper in the community at the Goldsmith Villa polling station.
There were several police details with teams of soldiers manning a post outside and visibly scouring the perimeter for threats.
There, the mostly PNP-clad supporters looked on, drinking, smoking and chatting among themselves.
