British woman arrested at airport after cocaine allegedly found hidden in craft items

The police say the estimated street value of the cocaine in the United Kingdom is £38,000.

A British woman was arrested on Monday at the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James after cocaine was allegedly found hidden in Jamaican craft items in her luggage.

She is being held on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Her name has been withheld pending further investigations.

The police say about 3 p.m., lawmen were conducting operations when a woman was accosted by the narcotics operatives.

The woman was in the process of checking on a flight to London, England.

After a preliminary interview, the police became suspicious and carried out a search of her luggage, which revealed 1.6kgs of cocaine concealed in Jamaican craft items, according to the police.

The estimated street value of the cocaine in the United Kingdom is £38,000.

She was subsequently arrested.
