The People's National Party (PNP) is demanding that Prime Minister Andrew Holness fire minister with responsibility for works, Everald Warmington, for recent comments made by the Cabinet minister.

Speaking to Jamaica Labour Party supporters following Monday's Local Government Elections, Warmington vowed to withhold public resources from the PNP's councillor-elect in the Old Harbour South Division, Dr Kurt Waul.

"I'm the minister of works, I'm the member of parliament, no PNP councillor going spend my money," Warmington said.

At the same time, Warmington said the JLP's losing candidate, Lloyd Grant "might not be councillor but he will spend every dime."

In a media release on Wednesday, the PNP said "Warmington's recent threat to withhold state funds from PNP councillors is a new low in his history of gutter politics and tribalism."

The PNP also said it was alarmed by Warmington's "undemocratic plan to manipulate government funding" and bypass the people's will.

It said the behaviour contradicts the principles of fair governance and insults taxpayers.

The PNP said failure to remove Warmington will be seen as a breach of trust by Holness.

"While Warmington stays MP until the next election, we demand a full withdrawal of his threats. He must commit to not interfering in the democratic process. The PNP calls for oversight to prevent any actions against the people's will," the PNP said.
