The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says it condemns comments by Everald Warmington, that he will withhold public funds from the People's National Party's councillor-elect in the Old Harbour South Division, Dr Kurt Waul.

"Mr Warmington's comments are reprehensible and does not represent the views of the Jamaica Labour Party or its leadership," the JLP said in a media release.

It also said it distances itself from the suggestion of political victimisation within constituencies.

"At the core of our organisation we espouse the principles of equal rights and justice and any suggestion that the democratically elected councillor will be victimised must be rebuffed," the JLP said.

Speaking to JLP supporters following Monday's Local Government Elections, Warmington noted: "I'm the minister of works, I'm the member of parliament, no PNP councillor going spend my money."

At the same time, Warmington said the JLP's losing candidate, Lloyd Grant "might not be councillor but he will spend every dime."

The PNP has called for Warmington to be fired from the Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica has called for decisive action to be taken against him by the political ombudsman.
