Suspect in Westmoreland 16-y-o girl's murder in custody

The suspect in the murder of 16-year-old Tara Alecia Dennis is now in police custody, the Westmoreland police say. 

Dennis, a waiter of a Little London address in the parish, was reportedly shot and killed on Saturday morning.

Her ex-boyfriend, who the Westmoreland police named as the prime suspect in the shooting, surrendered on Sunday. 

Another man, 38-year-old mechanic Derron Stewart, was also shot and injured during the attack. The police have since named him as a person of interest in incidents unrelated to Saturday's shooting. 

Commanding officer for the Negril police, Deputy Superintendent of Police Shaunjaye Mitchell, says Dennis' ex-boyfriend will be questioned and charged later today. 

The police say that both Dennis and Stewart were sitting on the teenager's veranda at approximately 2:15 a.m. when they were attacked.

The shooting incident is believed to have stemmed from a love triangle.
