Jamaica has lost one of its most esteemed public relations practitioners, Marcia Erskine, who died last night.

Erskine, who served as the communications consultant for the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association, reportedly died suddenly at her home in Kingston.

Born in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, Erskine received her education at the University of the West Indies. She began her career as a journalist, working at the Trinidad Guardian and later the Trinidad Express between 1974 and 1978.

In 1981, Erskine joined the staff of The Gleaner, spending four years with the publication.

Years later, she played an integral role as a member of the advisory committee for The Gleaner's Hospitality Jamaica Awards for a number of years.

Erskine also operated her own firm, Marcia Erskine and Associates Public Relations, located in Kingston, until her death.
