JLP's Damara Lawson confirmed as winner in the Southboro division
The Southboro division in St Catherine has been decided, with just four votes separating the Jamaica Labour Party's, Damara Lawson, from the People's National Party's candidate, Everton Shakes.
At the end of the magisterial recount today, Lawson tallied 1,012 votes to Shakes' 1,008 votes.
Attorney, Carolyn Chuck, who represented Lawson, said that the recount was a fair exercise that confirmed her client's position.
Meanwhile, Lawson said she is ready to carry out her mandate as councillor.
"I am ready to make education, road rehabilitation, proper water supply work to the overall development of the division," Lawson said.
Member of Parliament for St Catherine East Central, Alando Terrelonge, said he was pleased that two councillors from his constituency are now on the Portmore Municipal Corporation.
"For 15 years the PNP represented that division and we are now there to properly represent those who elected us to serve," Terrelonge said.
Dr Kes Miller, who was represented Shakes, said his client has conceded defeat.
