St Ann man accused of raping 14-y-o girl chopped to death
The St Ann police are investigating the chopping death of a man who was accused of raping a 14-year-old girl and abducting a two-year-old boy during a bizarre series of events on over the last three days in Moneague.
The deceased has been identified as 36-year-old Orando 'Teo' Coward, an unemployed man from Gray Wood district, where the alleged crimes took place.
He allegedly raped the child between Wednesday and Friday and threatened to create havoc in the community if the matter was reported to the police.
A report was made.
The police report that at about 7:20 a.m. on Friday, Coward, armed with a shotgun and a homemade weapon, went to the home of a resident, smashed her window, entered her dwelling and held onto her eight-year-old daughter while demanding the adult woman.
The mother reportedly fought Coward and regained her daughter. He allegedly then took the two-year-old boy and left the house.
Residents launched a search and the baby was rescued with help from the Coward's girlfriend, the police said.
At about 9:20 a.m. Coward reportedly returned to the house and pointed his gun at residents who were there. He was confronted and a machete allegedly used to hit the shotgun out of his hand.
Some of the residents reportedly ran while others tried to apprehend him. He was chopped during the process.
Coward was later found unresponsive and two guns recovered from him, the police said.
The Moneague police are investigating.
