Bus conductor accused of stealing $343,000 from woman's bank account freed
A bus conductor accused of larceny was freed in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday following a no-case submission by his attorney.
Thirty-seven-year-old Damian Vassell, of Spanish Town, St Catherine, was answering to seven counts of simple larceny and unauthorised access to data.
When the matter came up in court, attorney-at-law Kemoy McEkron argued that there was no evidence on which his client could be found guilty.
Presiding judge Kahon Lamey agreed with the submission and told the accused he was free to go.
The complainant, who is Vassell's ex-girlfriend, had alleged that between May 1 and 10, 2022 Vassell withdrew $343,000 from her account without her knowledge or authorisation.
He made numerous court appearances and maintained his innocence throughout.
