Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced a $200 million tuition support for at least 1,000 students who are in good academic standing with the tertiary institutions they attend, but are in need of financial assistance.

The Ministry of Education in conjunction with the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) will administer the support where each constituency will be allocated approximately $3 million. Each beneficiary is expected to get a maximum tuition grant of $200,000.

In his contribution to the Budget Debate in Parliament this afternoon, Holness also said that students enrolled in HEART/NSTA Trust under the Government's Community Action for Rewarding Engagement (CARE) initiative will receive a monthly transportation grant of $15,000.

He said that students have complained that they want to participate in the training programme but could not find the transportation cost to attend the HEART institutions.

Further, all trainees under the CARE programme will receive an additional stipend of $13,000 per week for the duration of their training.
