Muschett High celebrates first ever Champs medals

The streets of Wakefield in Trelawny were abuzz on Monday afternoon as Muschett High School celebrated winning their first ever medals at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships last week.

The din from horns, pot covers and music had students, staff and community members energised as they walked the streets to honour the athletes that brought them pride.

"A lot of records were broken over the weekend. We won the class two boys and girls 200 metres and also a bronze in the decathlon," coach Garth Smythe stated.

Impressive to the entire community, this is the first time the school has won any medals at Champs.

"There is a lot going on at Muschett. What I have learned over the weekend is that a lot of children from this area,  the parents and families will discourage from coming to Muschett. They send them to Clarendon, Manchester, and these children get lost in the system. They get no attention, and they are crying to come back here," he added.

Shanoya Douglas won gold medals in the class two girls 200 metres and 400 metres.

Johan-Ramaldo Smythe won a gold medal in the 200 metres for class two boys and Osmond Holt won a bronze medal in the decathlon.
