Ann-Merita Golding embraces carnival tradition with daughter
Opinions on children at Carnival are polarising; but on the affirmative end of the spectrum is Ann-Merita Golding, daughter of former Prime Minister Bruce Golding. Clad in her GenXs' Drakonus, she had her daughter Lyle-Kristina Turner in front of her, wide-eyed with excitement at the colourful process.
Ann-Merita is simply carrying on the tradition of carnival exposure that she experienced as a youth, explaining her early education of soca trailblazers like Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.
“This is her third carnival," she said of her daughter, "but the first time she'll be walking with me. Just for a mile and a half. I've been exposed to carnival from a young age as well. Listening to Byron Lee and the Dragonaires.”
Lyle-Kristina represents a generation of carnival soon to come. Already, she displays a deep love of the cultural practice.
“I'm excited about carnival this much!” she said, demonstrating by raising her hands high above her head.
