The street in front of the Jamaican Consulate in Manhattan, New York, is now the scene of a demonstration and counter-protest by members of the Jamaican Diaspora.

One demonstration is organised by the Jamaica Diaspora Crime Intervention and Prevention Task Force led by Dr Rupert Francis and Wilfred Rattigan.

The counter-protest is being led by Dr Clovis Nelson.

The main demonstration has attracted about 80 people, while the counter-demonstration has drawn 12 persons.

Speakers at the main demonstration called for accountability from the Jamaican government, while those opposing them have labelled the main demonstration as political.

Both groups are demonstrating under the watchful eyes of the New York Police Department.

The demonstration is expected to end about 1 p.m. New York time.
