The policeman is to go back to court on June 11.

The policeman who was involved in a shooting in Accompong, St Elizabeth in 2022 that left one man dead and five others, including children, injured has been charged.

Constable Lakarie Barrett appeared before the St Elizabeth Parish Court yesterday on charges of murder and five counts of unlawful wounding.

Barrett was offered $2 million bail with surety.

Reporting conditions and a stop order was imposed as part of his bail.

He is to return to court on June 11.

The charges stemmed from an investigation by the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) and a ruling by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

It was reported that Barrett and persons got into a confrontation while at a Maroon event in the community.

At the time of the incident, INDECOM issued a media release stating that the policeman, who was off-duty, was in attendance at an event in Accompong when he allegedly attempted to intervene in a fight between two men.

INDECOM said investigations revealed that the cop was attacked, during which he discharged his service Glock pistol.

Six persons, four adults and two children, were hit.

One of the adults, identified by the police as Lloyd Davis, later died.
