A successful public-private partnership was concluded recently at the Randolph Lopez School of Hope in Kingston. Through the joint efforts of several private-sector organisations, the Ministry of Education and Youth, and the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston, the students at the Randolph School of Hope can now enjoy a fully renovated computer room.

The project, named ‘Operation Digitize: Empowerment Through Technology’ and conceptualised by Aldrie Henry-Lee, past president of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston, was sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Youth, the Digicel Foundation, FX-Traders, Crossings Construction, JD Dunstan Associates, GMAssociates, and eLearning Jamaica.

It was coordinated by Kiwanian Pat Garel on behalf of the past president and members of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston.

A needs assessment was completed by David Cover.

Through the private-public partnership, the teachers and students received a computer room with a new roof and new electrical work. The room was also newly painted with new chairs, desks, and computers. The technology was carefully selected to fit the requirements of the students with special needs who attend the school.

Commenting on the partnership during the handover ceremony held on May 14, keynote speaker Fayval Williams, the minister of education, lauded the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston and the members of the private sector for the project, which is expected to empower the students and teachers at the school.

Williams called for their continued support in ensuring that each child in Jamaica receives an excellent education.

This is not the first major project executed by this Kiwanis Club at the school. Some years ago, the club also renovated the music room. The club also maintains a Key Club for the students.

Henry-Lee committed to the continued support of the school.
