Minister of Transport Daryl Vaz has expressed deep sadness at the tragic crash involving a female pedestrian in St Catherine on Friday, vowing that the Government will work tirelessly to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time. The loss of a life under such circumstances is truly heartbreaking, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragedy,” said Vaz.

Vaz said his ministry is about to roll out a Pedestrian Safety Campaign, specifically aimed at educating and protecting this category of road users.

"We continue to urge all road users to exercise caution, obey traffic laws, and always prioritise the safety of themselves and others," he said.

Vaz added that the Ministry will continue to collaborate with relevant stakeholders to enhance road safety measures across the country through public education, infrastructure improvements, and enforcement of traffic regulations.

“We aim to create safer roads for all Jamaicans, and I reaffirm the government's commitment to serve and protect our most vulnerable road users," said Vaz.

Twenty-year-old customer service representative, Brittny Hunter, was killed in a vehicular collision as she attempted to cross Walks Road in St Catherine on Friday.

Hunter, who resided in Commodore, Linstead in the parish, reportedly walked into the path of a tractor head which was being driven along the roadway about  8:37 a.m.
