Well wishes for Tufton who is recovering after being hit from bicycle
The People's National Party (PNP) says its wishing a speedy recovery for Minister of Health, Dr Christopher Tufton, who is hospitalised after being hit from his bicycle while cycling in the Corporate Area early this morning.
Junior Shadow Spokesperson on Health and Wellness, Jesse James Clarke, says the Opposition is saddened by the incident.
“Special commendations are due to the staff at the University Hospital of the West Indies [UHWI] for their prompt and dedicated efforts in ensuring the Minister's recovery.”
Clarke said it is hoped that the authorities will settle the case swiftly.
Meanwhile, Minister of Information, Dr Dana Morris-Dixon, in providing an update, said that Tufton is undergoing surgery to address injuries to his hand and leg.
Morris-Dixon was, however, quick to point out that she has no information on the driver of the car who was involved in the accident, except for what was posted on Tufton's Instagram account.
"The entire Cabinet is praying for a speedy recovery," said Morris-Dixon.
"He was riding his bicycle when the accident occurred and he was wearing his helmet. The helmet prevented more serious injuries and that is why we encourage all riders of bicycles and motorbikes to always wear a helmet. His doctors have indicated that they expect that he will have a full recovery," she added.
Tufton posted a photo with dancehall entertainer Valiant on his Instagram this morning speaking about the incident.
“Counting myself very lucky because it could have been worse,” he wrote.
“…Thanks to Valiant who was involved for rushing me to UHWI and to the team of doctors and nurses who are currently attending to me,” he added.
Tufton was reportedly riding his bicycle Sunday morning in a section of the Corporate Area when he was hit by a car, which was reportedly being driven by the popular entertainer.
The Gleaner made contact with the entertainer's handlers who while acknowledging that they are aware of the incident, indicated that they were not prepared to offer any comment at this time.
