PEP exams still on despite severe weather conditions
The Ministry of Education says Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations scheduled for today and tomorrow will proceed as planned, despite severe weather conditions affecting the island.
In a media release on Wednesday morning, the ministry said it was aware of the unease at several primary schools serving as examination centres due to the ongoing severe weather.
It says it has implemented measures to ensure the safety and convenience of students.
"Given the severe weather conditions experienced across Jamaica over the past 24 hours, we have made the decision to allow students impacted by the weather to sit the exam at the school nearest to their homes. We are committed to ensuring that our children can complete their exams in a safe environment while maintaining the integrity of our examination process," Minister of Education, Fayval Williams, says.
Baxter's Mountain, Camberwell and May River primary schools in St Mary have been severely impacted by the adverse weather.
Students scheduled to take the PEP examinations at these schools are required to attend the safest school nearest to their location.
The ministry has coordinated with local authorities to facilitate this transition smoothly.
"The Ministry of Education and Youth urges everyone to exercise caution and due care during this period of extreme weather. We advise parents, guardians, and school staff to stay informed about weather updates and follow all safety guidelines provided by the authorities," the ministry says.
