Speak to the mountains
Rev Dwight Fletcher
WHEN WE are introduced to God in Genesis, we are introduced to the power of speaking. The Bible tells us in Mark 11:23 to speak to our mountains, and it tells us that the result will be that we will have what we say. We will not survive these difficult end-times if we do not verbally declare the truth of God’s Word. Ephesians 6 tells us that the sword of the Spirit is the only offensive weapon that the Believer has in his arsenal. Jesus was our example. When He was tempted in the wilderness by Satan, He declared the Word and used it to defeat Satan. The weapon of the Word is activated primarily by our speech, so we must be intentional about what we say in these end times.
Our faith is alive and active and as we speak to our faith, it will grow. 2 Corinthians 4:13 (GNT) says “The scripture says, “I spoke because I believed.” In the same spirit of faith we also speak because we believe. We must start by speaking with our Heavenly Father. Seek God in prayer and “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22 (NIV). Everything in our lives must be steeped, and find its foundation, in prayer.
After we have sought the Lord in prayer, we must then speak to ourselves and our situations using the Word of God as our source code. We need to boldly proclaim what we believe in every situation that we face despite what we see. The Word of God is what Job, in his distress, proclaimed. He expressed what he believed despite his circumstances. He said, “I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes — I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!” Job 19:25-27 (NIV). We must speak God’s Word over our own situations.
Third, we must speak to others. We’re not here only for ourselves. God calls us to be light and salt to others. The Word instructs, “I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” Philemon 1:6 (NIV). Even as we experience perilous times, those around us are also experiencing it, and are looking for hope. We are the carriers of hope, and Christ’s life and love to the world. We must speak Jesus, not only in our lives, but in the lives of those who need Him.
Through the trials that we face during these perilous times, God calls us to, “Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials. 3 Be assured that the testing of your faith [through experience] produces endurance [leading to spiritual maturity, and inner peace].” James 1:2-3(AMP). As we do so, we will proclaim the truth of God, find rest in His unfailing love, and our faith will be built. So as life happens to and around us, we will no longer live in distress. Our faith will grow stronger, and His strength will become our strength.
As we tap into God’s strength, we tap into strength that has no end. Therefore, even on bad days and days of tribulation, we will be able to go through. This is part of how we will not only survive, but we will thrive even in these ‘end times’.
