Four people travelling on two motorcycles with no registration plates died in a three-vehicle crash in Westmoreland yesterday.

Their identities have not yet been ascertained.

One hundred and ninety people have died in motor vehicle crashes since the start of the year, eleven less than was recorded for the corresponding period last year, according to the latest police statistics.

According to the police, the two motorcycles, each with a pillion, were attempting to overtake a car that was making a left turn off the Culloden main road.

Its reported that they both crashed head-on into a motor bus travelling in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision sent the two motorcycles crashing into the car they were overtaking.
