Crime Stop saw marginal decline in tips in 2023

There was a marginal decline in the number of tips received by Crime Stop Jamaica in 2023 when compared to 2022.

Crime Stop Jamaica received 1 134 tips, a 1.2 per cent decline compared with 2022, indicated the Economic and Social Survey Jamaica, which is prepared by the Planning Institute of Jamaica.

According to the report, the programme paid out $10.2 million in rewards, $9.1 million of which was from rewards for guns.

The report said the programme assisted in the seizure of 44 illegal firearms and 561 rounds of ammunition and resulted in 39 arrests, eight of which were for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, and eight for murder.

There was also the recovery of $30.7 million worth of stolen/illegal property and the seizure of narcotics valued at $309,846.

Since its inception, Crime Stop has received 32,295 calls of which 25,771 or 80 per cent have been investigated.

This has led to 2,898 arrests of which 377 were for murder.

Narcotics seizure was valued at over $871 million, while property recovered was valued at $317.5 million.

Rewards paid out in relation to these activities totalled $73 million.
