Two policemen are under investigation for allegedly beating a woman with a stool and choking her during an altercation at a bar in Hanover on Saturday, reportedly over the price of a beverage.

The woman claimed, too, that when she went to the Sandy Bay Police Station to file a complaint, she was beaten a second time by one of the cops and chased from the compound.

She filed a report of "unlawful wounding" today at the Lucea Police Station, according to a receipt she shared with The Gleaner.

A report has also been made to the Independent Commission of Investigation (INDECOM), the police oversight body confirmed today.

"We will be investigating," a spokesperson disclosed.

Donnovan Collins, the attorney hired by the woman, has also written to the Commissioner of Police complaining about the cops' alleged conduct.

According to Collins, his client had to seek medical treatment for a gash to the head and bruises all over her body.

He claimed, in his letter to the police commissioner, that the incident occurred after the cops – one of them in full uniform – balked at the price quoted for the drink they ordered at the bar.

The attorney charged that as the dispute escalated, both sides traded insults before the cops followed the woman as she left the bar and headed to the nearby shop she operated.

One of the policemen followed the woman into her shop, "held her and started squeezing her throat and hitting her all over her body with his fist", Collins charged in his letter.

"He then pulled her outside to the side of the shop where he used a wooden stool to hit her in the head, inflicting a wound," he alleged.

"She fell to the ground and whilst she was on the ground [name redacted] kicked her all over her body and started squeezing her throat again," Collins charged.
