Two men charged with murder after St Andrew shooting
Two men have been charged with murder and multiple firearm-related offenses arising from a shooting in Golden Spring Square, St Andrew on August 12.
The incident resulted in the death of 50-year-old Christopher 'Youth' McKenzie, a vendor from Mount Pleasant district in the parish.
The accused are 24-year-old taxi operator Akeem Gooden, otherwise known as 'Slippers Man,' from 3 East Greater Portmore, St Catherine, and 24-year-old Markeion Slater, also known as 'Tulloch,' a labourer from Cassava Piece in Kingston.
According to reports from the Stony Hill Police, the incident occurred around 12:12 a.m., when McKenzie was at his stall. He was reportedly ambushed by two gunmen traveling in a Toyota Voxy motor car. One of the men opened fire on McKenzie, striking him multiple times.
As the gunmen attempted to flee the scene, they were intercepted by a police patrol team in the area.
The cops accosted the suspects and, during a search, recovered a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol with an empty magazine. The scene was processed, and McKenzie was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Following a question-and-answer session in the presence of their attorneys on Friday, both Gooden and Slater were officially charged with murder, using a firearm to commit a felony, and possession of a prohibited weapon
