UTech to confer honorary degrees on Sean Paul, Major General Antony Anderson and Christopher Zacca
Entertainer Sean Paul Henriques, former police commissioner Major General Antony Anderson and businessman Christopher Zacca are to be conferred with honorary doctorates at this year's graduation ceremonies of the University of Technology, Jamaica.
UTech Jamaica will host Graduation Ceremonies on November 15 and 16 at the Alfred Sangster Auditorium, at its Papine campus.
In a media release on Thursday, UTech said Sean Paul, who is a former student of the university, will be conferred with the Doctor of Letters Honoris Causa (Hon. DLitt) "in recognition of his phenomenal achievements in music and for his contribution to nation building."
The university noted that Sean Paul is a Grammy Award-winning international superstar, is renowned for his distinct voice, catchy rhythms, first-rate production, and superb performances.
Meanwhile, Anderson will be conferred with the Doctor of Technology Honoris Causa (Hon. DTech) contribution to national development. UTech said he has had a distinguished military career in the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) spanning 34 years and led the Jamaica Constabulary Force for six years, from March 2018 to March 2024.
"Under his command, major crimes were at their lowest in over 20 years. During his stewardship, the JCF embraced technological innovation, becoming a standard-bearer for efficiency and effectiveness in the region," UTech said.
For his contribution to Jamaica's economic development, Zacca is being conferred with the Doctor of Laws Honoris Causa (Hon. LLD). UTech notes that Zacca is a prominent Jamaican business leader with a wealth of business and management experience in both the public and private sectors spanning over three decades.
The University of Technology, Jamaica will also present The Chancellor's Medal, which is its most prestigious non-academic award of equal status to an Honorary Doctorate, to Cynthia Shako who served as Head of Health Services at the former College of Arts, Science and Technology (CAST) now UTech.
