St John’s SDA celebrates beloved Sister P
Linneth Patterson, affectionately called Sister P, was recently celebrated by family and friends of the St John’s Seventh-day Adventist Church (SDA), after she turned 104 years old.
Sister P attained the significant milestone on September 15, and the Rock N Come In Senior Citizens Club of the church hosted a celebration for her on October 12 in the church’s recreation hall.
She was hailed as the longest living member of the St John’s SDA, located on Featherbed Lane in Spanish Town.
At the event, Sister P created quite a stir among those who gathered to pay tribute to her when she sang her favourite hymn: Look for the Waymarks as you Journey on and quoted Isaiah 46:4 which states: “Even when your hair has turned gray, I (the Lord) will take care of you. I will carry you and save you”.
Although visually impaired, the centenarian continues to be a diligent Bible student. She remains coherent and still quotes Scripture passages and sings hymns from memory.
Special congratulatory messages, greetings and gifts were presented from Governor General Sir Patrick Allen, Lady Allen and their children Kurt, Candice and David.
Executive director for the National Council for Senior Citizens, Cassandra Morrison, also congratulated Patterson on her attainment of 104 years old.
Several members of the church community and her family gave glowing toasts to their beloved Sister P. She was praised for her long and outstanding contribution to the church and the wider community.
Sister P was lauded as an exceptional mother to several children, though none biological.
Pastor of the St John’s SDA, Evrett Rowe, and the elders of the church prayed their blessings on the celebrant.
