Vandals damage Flow fibre cables in Half-Way Tree, several without service
Telecommunication company Flow Jamaica is reporting that vandals early this morning set fire to its fibre cables in Half-Way Tree, St Andrew after breaching a manhole.
Flow says this has resulted in the disruption of services to numerous customers in the Half-Way Tree and New Kingston area and its environs.
“This is an unfortunate and senseless setback on a busy Friday that has left many customers and business places without essential voice and Internet services,” said Senior Manager, Communication, Danielle Savory.
“Our technical teams have mobilised repairs and we are committed to restoring services as swiftly as possible, however, such vandalism has wide-reaching effects,” she added.
Savory said based on the nature of the damage, the company is still working to assess the number of customers impacted.
Flow says it continues to face significant challenges with ongoing vandalism and theft of its network infrastructure, leading to substantial repair costs.
