INDECOM probing shooting death 20-y-o woman in Clarendon
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the shooting of a woman in an incident involving an off-duty policeman at a hotel in Clarendon on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old, Jimoy Suckoo.
INDECOM says it has received reports that the policeman's service firearm was discharged, causing the injury and subsequent death of Suckoo.
INDECOM says its investigation will seek to ascertain the full circumstances and actions taken which resulted in the weapon being fired.
It says the policeman's gun was recovered and he provided an initial account to the INDECOM's investigative team.
The incident scene was also examined and evidential material processed and packaged.
The hands of the deceased as well as that of the policeman were swabbed for gunshot residue.
The policeman was served with a Section 21 Notice, pursuant to the Independent Commission of Investigations Act, 2010, to submit a statement and an interview will be scheduled.
Eight persons have been fatally shot by members of the security forces since the start of the year.
