Updated | Cocaine valued over US$500,000 seized at St Andrew apartment
A property manager has been charged with several offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act after cocaine valued at more than US$500,000 was seized at a St Andrew apartment.
The seizure was made during a major anti-narcotics operation by the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID), about 10:50 a.m. on January 8, at the apartment in Charlton Court, St Andrew.
Acting on information, the police team reportedly intercepted a grey Toyota Hiace motor vehicle at the gate of the complex, which led them to an apartment where the cocaine was allegedly found.
The police say a search of the apartment and vehicle uncovered 122 parcels of cocaine, weighing approximately 295 pounds, valued at over US$500 million.
The accused, 63-year-old Allan Patrick Constable, was taken into custody and charged with possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, trafficking of cocaine, conspiracy to traffic cocaine and possession of criminal property.
The police say the seizure is a significant blow to narcotics traffickers and "sends a clear message that law enforcement agencies will continue to vigorously pursue and prosecute those involved in illicit activities."
Editor's Note: The police previously reported the value of the cocaine seizure at US$500 million. They subsequently corrected the figure to US$500,000.
