The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is probing the fatal shooting of a man by the police in Portmore, St Catherine, on Tuesday night.

The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old labourer Alex Madden of a Kingston 11 address.

Reports are that about 9 p.m., police personnel were on operation in Bridgeport, Portmore, when Madden was accosted.

He allegedly challenged the team with a gun, the police took evasive action and he was shot and injured.

The police say they seized a pistol affixed with a magazine containing six rounds.

Madden was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
