Update |Soldier charged with murder of colleague shot during altercation in Belize
BELMOPAN, Belize, CMC – A 32-year-old Lance Corporal has been charged with the murder of a member of the Belize Defence Force (BDF) who was shot and killed while on duty at the Crique Sarco Conservation Post in Toledo, the country’s southernmost district.
Alfredo Robinson Junior has been charged with the murder of Private Clive Baizar, who was killed during the incident that occurred last Sunday night.
Several soldiers were on duty when the altercation escalated to violence between Baizar and Robinson, after which several shots were fired.
Baizar succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while another patrol member, Brandon Guzman, sustained two gunshot wounds and is currently in stable condition.
Robinson is expected to be arraigned later this week.
Meanwhile, BDF Commandant, Brigadier General Azariel Loria, says the accused is known to be quiet in nature and that after the incident he appeared to be in shock.
“The character or the behaviour of Lance Corporal Robinson, from, from what I got to understand, after talking to the men on the ground and the Commanding Officer out there is that he is reserved in nature.
“He is reserved, he often is secluded, he, he likes to seclude himself. And he is affectionately called Viejo, Viejo meaning old man because of the way he acts,” he added.
