The Court Administration Division is advising the public that all court matters scheduled for today at the Spanish Town and Old Harbour courts have been suspended.

It says the decision follows the declaration of a State of Public Emergency (SOE) in the St Catherine South Police Division due to a recent surge in violent crime.

The SOE was declared in the St Andrew South, St Andrew Central, Kingston Western, St Catherine South police divisions on Wednesday by the Government.

The agency says the safety of court users, staff, and stakeholders remains a top priority.

It adds that it is committed to ensuring the continued administration of justice while taking necessary precautions to safeguard all individuals within the affected areas.

Individuals with matters scheduled for the affected courts are encouraged to contact the relevant court or the division at 876-586-9783.

A list of rescheduled court dates will be shared as soon as possible.
