Security forces on high alert amid extreme threat level following fatal shooting of ‘Thickman’

The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) says the security forces are on high alert due to an extreme threat level following the fatal police shooting of a reputed top leader of the One Order criminal gang Othneil ‘Thickman’ Lobban.

The JCF says the security forces are taking all necessary measures to ensure their safety and that of the public.

It says cops and soldiers continue to work to maintain order in Spanish Town, St Catherine amid Lobban’s death.

It is reported that Lobban was shot during an alleged confrontation with police along Washington Boulevard in St Andrew last night.

Eyewitnesses report that a police team pursued a blue motor vehicle along the roadway before a three-vehicle crash occurred on the overhead bridge at Six Miles.

Lobban was taken from the blue vehicle and to the hospital after the collision, where he was pronounced dead.

The JCF, in a media release this morning, stated that despite attempts by supporters of the deceased to disrupt the area, the police and Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) have a strong presence on the ground and the situation remains under control.

The JCF noted that Thickman was listed as one of the top 5 most wanted individuals by the National Joint Anti-Gang Task Force's Assault on Gang initiative.

However, he remained elusive and, according to the police, directed various violent activities and organised crimes in St Catherine, Kingston and other parishes.

“We urge citizens to remain calm and to cooperate with the security forces, as they work to maintain peace and stability in the area.”
