The management of Ribbiz Ultra Lounge says it has been cooperating fully with the police and the Independent Commission of Investigations as they probe the fatal shooting of a worker by an off-duty policeman.

Jermaine Richards, 40, of Fleet Street in Kingston, was shot in the parking lot of the Ardenne Emirates Plaza located on Ardenne Road, Kingston 10 on the early morning of Thursday, January 23.

The incident reportedly happened around 4:10 a.m.

Ribbiz, in a statement through its lawyers, today indicated that the policeman was not employed or contracted to the company but was a patron at the lounge that morning.

Ribbiz added that at the material time of the incident the lounge was closed.

It also stated that none of the directors of Ribbiz was present at the premises when the incident occurred.

Upset family members of Richards and residents of Fleet Street on Sunday staged another protest on the shooting, this time in the vicinity of the plaza where Ribbiz is located.

On the morning of the killing last week, they demonstrated in the community, raising questions about the fatal shooting.

They also asserted that Richards’ employer has questions to answer.

Ribbiz, in its statement, again expressed deep regret and sadness at “the unfortunate and truly tragic death of Mr Jermaine Richards.”

The restaurant said while it understands the pain and anguish caused by this tragedy, it is encouraging all concerned parties to exercise caution and sensitivity in their statements during this difficult time.

“Speculation and misinformation will only serve to exacerbate an already delicate situation,” said Ribbiz.

“While we recognise and appreciate the strong emotions surrounding this incident, we must emphasise that some of the remarks being made are inaccurate and defamatory. The public can be assured that our client is deeply committed to supporting the ongoing investigations.”

Ribbiz says the management remains committed to transparency and accountability as it awaits the outcome of the official investigations.
