The Spanish Town police in St Catherine have arrested and charged a 32-year-old man in connection with the beating and shooting of a teenage girl last year.

On Monday, Kevon McCallum, of Beacon Hill in Spanish Town, was charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent, assault at common law, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorized possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony.

According to reports, around 10:00 p.m. on February 13, 2024, the complainant was shot and injured by the accused.

It is alleged that the complainant was brought to McCallum to be reprimanded after being accused of stealing a sum of money from a relative.

The accused reportedly beat the teenager, brandished a firearm, pointed it at her head, and discharged one round, injuring her.

The victim was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital and later transferred to the Kingston Public Hospital, where she was admitted.

An investigation was launched, leading to the recent arrest and subsequent charging of the accused.

A court date is being finalised for McCallum to appear in the St Catherine Parish Court, where the matter will be mentioned.
