Man fatally shot by police in alleged confrontation in Manchester
The Independent Commission of Investigations is probing the fatal shooting of a man by the police during an alleged confrontation in Downs district, Manchester, early this morning.
The deceased has not yet been identified.
According to reports, around 4:00 a.m., police personnel were conducting an operation in the area when they accosted the man.
He reportedly challenged the police with a firearm, during which a policeman was shot but was saved by his ballistic vest.
The police took evasive action and returned fire, hitting the man.
A Springfield pistol with a magazine containing four rounds of .45 calibre ammunition was reportedly seized from the scene.
The injured man was assisted to the Mandeville Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
