The National Water Commission (NWC) is reporting that more than 7,000 persons have applied for its debt amnesty programme, with many successfully formalising their contracts and reconnecting to its network.

The programme started on January 2 and runs until the end of March.

The write-off is geared at helping customers settle outstanding balances and also regain access to essential water services.

Under the amnesty programme, residential customers disconnected for six months or more will benefit from a waiver of reconnection fees and a 50% debt write-off upon payment of the remaining 50%.

Pensioners and PATH beneficiaries may get a 100% discount on debts older than two years (applicable for both active and inactive accounts).

In addition to the programme, customers who are in arrears may also access benefits under the NWC’s Customer Relief Measures.

Discount options include: 90 days to 2 years (due to underground leaks), 25% discount with 6-12 months to settle balance

3-5 years;30%-35% discount with 3-18 months to clear 6-11 years; 40% discount with up to 6 months; over 11 years: 50% discount with up to three months

Meanwhile, the NWC points out that customers may see returns under its loyalty programme.

Through this rewards initiative, 350 residential customers who pay their bills on time and in full between December 18, 2024, and March 31, 2025, will receive a $20,000 credit each.

Additionally, three customers who also register for NWC’s e-bill service and pay their bills on time and in full during the promotion period could win a share of $600,000 in cash.

Eligible customers are again encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity.
