Men convicted for possession of stolen police car granted bail pending appeal
Two of three St Catherine men who have been sentenced to two years' imprisonment for unlawful possession of property in relation to a stolen police motor car were granted $500,000 bail, pending an appeal.
The sentences were handed down in the St Catherine Parish Court by Senior Parish Court judge Desiree Alleyne on Thursday.
However, she granted bail to Rodane Williams and Rohan McLeish of Linstead, St Catherine, after their attorney, Denise Hinson, gave verbal notice of appeal on their behalf.
The other convicted man in the case is Rodene English.
The men were convicted after they were caught doing bodywork on a stolen unmarked police car.
The Crown had led evidence that in May 2021 a policeman parked a Toyota Corolla at the Sovereign Shopping Centre in Portmore.
Upon returning from an errand he realised the vehicle was missing and an investigation was launched.
A police party proceeded to a garage where the men were held with the vehicle.
They reportedly gave an unsatisfactory account of how they came to be in possession of the car and were subsequently arrested and charged.
